Parenting as Primary Prevention

This resource studies how social-emotional and behavioral dysfunction contributes to negative health issues. A child can have bad social, emotional, or behavioral development for any number of reasons, although parents do hold the most responsibility. When parents do not pay attention to the behavioral and mental health of a child during the pediatric and adolescent stage, they are far more likely to experience issues of negative health. The negative health issues that were studied and associated with poor development were things like obesity, asthma, and cardiovascular disease.
