Mindful Breathing

Appreciate the Gift of Your Amazing Body

In this mindfulness practice, we ask that you do the following:

    1. Pretend you are seeing your body, an amazing, electronic bio-chemical machine, for the first time. Focus with awe on each body part, one at a time, as you mindfully breathe in and out.

    2. As you breathe, silently repeat the focus words:

      Breathing in, think: ”I am unique…
      Breathing out, think: “…and wonderfully made.

    3. Lie down in a quiet, place, with your knees slightly bent, or sit in a comfortable Close your eyes and take three deep breaths.
      Focus all your attention on your body, beginning with the toes of your right foot. Tense and relax each body part as you move your attention up the right half of your body to your neck.

    4. Contemplate on how wonderfully each part of your body is made and what it can do. If your mind wanders, gently bring your attention back to your body.

    5. Next, focus your attention on your left side, moving from your toes to your neck. Then focus on your heart, lungs, and stomach.

    6. Last, focus on your face, with its remarkable eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and tongue and what each can do.

    7. When you finish, take a deep breath, and feel gratitude for your amazing body.
