What is Finding Home?
Finding Home is a fun, interactive learning program that teaches the Strengthening Families Program (SFP) skills to create loving families, healthy brains, and drug and alcohol-free kids. The parent and the youth learning modules each include:
- Learn & Earn – a series of ten interactive lessons with a Parent track and a Youth track. Learn skills & earn gaming rewards!
- Family Activities + a weekly Family Meeting you do together.
- Mindfulness skills – feel calmer, focused, enjoy life more!
- A fun game – Kids earn rewards to battle monsters (family hazards)!
- More! Love Notes, a resource library, and more fun interactions.
The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) was created for your whole family: We define a family as at least one adult, who is in charge of at least one youth. So, no matter what your family makeup—your family belongs here!
Learn & Earn:
A fun, rewarding 10-week course with parent and youth lessons to learn skills to better communicate, manage emotions, use positive discipline, resist negative peers, and protect kids from depression, drug & alcohol use, and delinquency. Each lesson has:
- Three interactive lesson segments, each introducing new concepts and valuable life skills.
- Refresh & Remember – at the start of each new lesson to help you reflect on the skills you practiced in the previous lesson.
- Family Activities where you fill in your ideas on topics like: “What are the most important family rules for your family?” These appear on your weekly Family Meeting Agenda. Fun family activities at home make the magic happen! They need to be done together to put SFP skills into practice.
- A Review of concepts, skills, goals, and rewards earned to use in the game! Each lesson gains you a key to a new land in the game!
The Finding Home Game!
The fast-moving video game begins with a quarreling brother and sister who were teleported by accident to scary lands. They must cooperate and fight ten fierce monsters to get to a magic portal to return home.
The monsters on each land represent hazards families face if they are missing SFP skills.
In the Learn & Earn lessons, you unlock Skill Icons that represent powerful SFP skills! They can then be used in battle, allowing you to build stronger tools to more easily defeat the monsters!

SFP is an evidence-based program that teaches proven skills to help families create the loving, nurturing environment needed to raise responsible, emotionally healthy, addiction-free kids.
You’ll find the needed skills in this gamified version. Parents and youth just need to add the other essentials which are:
- Hold a weekly Family Meeting after each lesson using the agenda provided.
- Practice the skills you learned as a family during the week.
- Have healthy, pleasant, electronics-free family dinners (or another meal) at least 3-5 times per week where you discuss your SFP skills.

NOTE: This SFP version requires reading skills. If you have children younger than age 11, include them in your weekly Family Meeting. They can learn the same skills by watching our SFP Family Video Lessons with you – online or via a DVD. Find them at: SFPvideos.org.
