Activity 7.1 Our Managing Stress

When our brain perceives a threatening or stressful situation, it triggers chemicals that shut down body systems not needed for instant survival and raises those needed. Stress raises blood pressure and heart rate and diverts blood from our brain to our large muscles. When our body remains in a stressed state for long periods, it impairs our health. Stress also makes us more likely to respond aggressively to people or things that stress us.

The good news is that since stress is triggered by our thoughts and circumstances, the more we take control of these, the more we are able to reduce negative stress.

This activity can help you identify stressors, choose reducers, and plan ways to reduce stress.
