Expressive suppression of negative emotions in children and adolescents

Expressive suppression is when a person attempts to conceal emotion or expressive behavior, and this is not a good parenting strategy with children or adolescents. It is important to teach children how to regulate and control their emotions, however concealing and hiding these real feelings comes with negative consequences in adulthood. This study is used to understand what factors lead to a child using expressive suppression, and why expressive suppression is directly linked to negative emotional, social, mental, and physical health risks.
