Lesson 4: Family Jobs List

Family Jobs List

A long-term study showed that kids who did assigned chores as children and teens were more responsible, competent, self-reliant and had higher self-esteem as young adults than those who did not. Kids who do not have to do chores were more likely to be self-centered and at a greater risk for depression.

Help children know what it takes to run a home and help them share in the responsibilities. Have each family member open this form and select the chores they can do. Then, as a family, review the jobs listed, and decide who should be responsible for the chore. Divide up the jobs fairly, according to age and ability. Train people to do the job, as needed.

If you prefer a paper version of the form, see the Family Chores worksheet.
